Great feature at the Kerry Campaign Blog

They’re not the only campaign to highlight news that’s not flattering to the Bush administration, but the way the Kerry campaign packages it is outstanding: What would George Bush learn if he read today’s newspaper? I love it.

Back story: In an interview with Brit Hume on September 22, President Bush was asked how he got his news. His response was the concluding exchange of the interview:

HUME: How do you get your news?

BUSH: I get briefed by Andy Card and Condi in the morning. They come in and tell me. In all due respect, you’ve got a beautiful face and everything.

I glance at the headlines just to kind of a flavor for what’s moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves. But like Condoleezza, in her case, the national security adviser is getting her news directly from the participants on the world stage.

HUME: Has that been your practice since day one, or is that a practice that you’ve…

BUSH: Practice since day one.

HUME: Really?

BUSH: Yes. You know, look, I have great respect for the media. I mean, our society is a good, solid democracy because of a good, solid media. But I also understand that a lot of times there’s opinions mixed in with news. And I…

HUME: I won’t disagree with that, sir.

BUSH: I appreciate people’s opinions, but I’m more interested in news. And the best way to get the news is from objective sources. And the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what’s happening in the world.

(The jokes pretty much write themselves, don’t they?)

  1. What's exactly wrong with this? I'm scratching my head wondering how anyone (lefty-extremist) or not could look at this and see anything wrong or humorous about it.Unless your suggesting that people are 'supposed' to believe in liberal lefty news stories as gospel instead of the people they work for and regard with high respect.I want a President of the United States who relies on his administration to get the facts sorted out away from the opinions. I don't want a president who does any different than that.So what's so funny? Are you insinuating something here that it is more normal to believe in Liberal Lefty Bias than to rely on what is happening out in the world and therefore everyone should vote for Howard Dean?

  2. Well Jeff, if he is given the “facts” by his staff, it hasn't amounted to much now has it?Where are the WMDs?Where's Osama?Where's Saddam?Where is the job growth from his tax policies?Maybe he should take the time out of his fundraising schedule to read a damn newspaper.

  3. “Well Jeff, if he is given the “facts” by his staff, it hasn't amounted to much now has it?”Actually it has. All of the facts have successfully angered the leftist liberals who hate hold nations accountable to terrorism.Where are the WMDs?We found a vial of botulism in a scientist's home and the scientist has said there is another larger storage of the chemical. We found the 6 mobile bio weapons labs as well. Where are they? We found them. Where were you?Where's Osama? He's on the run which is far better than him committing terrorist attacks and assualts. Clinton never got him on the run because he never went after him.Where's Saddam? He's out of power finally. He no longer has the ability to harass the Iraqi people. We have our military out there keeping the terrorists and ba'aathist sympathizers number's down. All of which you liberals are against.Where is the job growth from his tax policies?”WJR News Talk Radio has announced that 50,000 some jobs worth of growth have just occured last month. How's that for job growth? It's coming slowly and surely. The more we get the job growth the less likely it is that your failed ideology will succeed in fooling everyone to your side.
