News: Lieberman woos tech leaders
In some early maneuvering for the 2004 election, a group of technology executives and venture capitalists said Wednesday that they believe Sen. Joseph Lieberman is the best choice for president.
Getting John Doerr (a huge contributor and quite a force in the tech industry) is a coup for the Lieberman campaign. His endorsement will likely lead to others strongly considering Lieberman, and will make winning their endorsement a bit harder.
Getting Tech endorsments usually means those of the CEOs that Tom Davis loves so much, “In Spring 2000, a major supporter of pending legislation which would increase the H-1B quota, Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.), had the gall to say, “This is not a popular bill with the public. It's popular with the CEOs…This is a very important issue for the high-tech executives who give the money.'' Davis is chair of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.It would be nice if Dean would adopt hundreds of thousands of IT workers who have are losing their jobs, insurance, and homes as their positions are traded for green cards that allow immigrant programmers to bring thier parents over here and put them on SSI. This is typica public assets being traded for private profit, the sort of things that old time Democrats objected to. If Dean wants a check, selling out the workers is the way to go. If he wants good jobs for US citizens who will/can not accept a green card as pay, a million IT workers will cheer him. Just saying that no foreign woker can replace a US worker unless paid more than the average earned by US workers would do wonders. Why does congress take so much convincing? Dean has had an adequate chance to address the H-1b/L-1 issue. He hasn't(Neither has Sharpton). Dennis Kucinich and Carol Moseley Braun both voted against H-1b expansion. The rest all supported H-1b/L-1 expansion.
